Throughout her film career, Kelly remained as a supporting role which was likely due to her openess about her sexuality but today, she has a strong following in the cult classic movie community and is one of the strongest examples about a celebrity being openly homosexual in early Hollywood.

Ruby Dandridge eventually left her husband after she had her two daughters and moved in with Geneva Williams.
